Hurricane Hits East Coast!2009-11-05
A hurricane rolled in but lost strength when it hit the East Coast...
GARNER, NC, 11/05/2009: The Bantam Junior Canes met the Bantam East Coast Eagles in their first CHL match up of the season tonight at the Garner Ice House.
Play in the first period was physical and was tilted mostly in favor of the Eagles. #47 Anthony Mascia found the back of the net with 7:04 remaining with a beautiful power play goal from nearly mid-ice. The top shelf shot stunned the opposing goalie on his glove-side. Eagles led 1-0 after the first.
While the Eagles spent some time in the penalty box in the second period, they still managed to regain a 2-1 lead on an unassisted goal by #47 Anthony Mascia (his second of the night) near the end of the period. Eagles led 2-1 entering the third.
The third period went back and forth and the Junior Canes tied it 2-2 with 14:38 remaining. However, a few minutes later, #13 Josh Wesley scored giving the Eagles a 3-2 lead (#10 Scott Conklin and #16 Zach Cline with the assists). With time winding down in the third, the Junior Canes slipped a last minute shocker past the Eagles net minder and the game ended in a 3-3 tie.
Although down a few players due to injuries, etc., the Eagles still came out and played a tough and very aggressive game. The Eagles scored first and held the lead entering each period. Goalie #33 Cam Raidna fought off multiple power play barrages and made some beautiful saves. It was a great hard fought game and both teams seemed very evenly matched in their first CHL meeting.
